About

Cristina Garcia is an independent literary agent who represents a diverse list of authors across both fiction and nonfiction. She is drawn to literary and upmarket fiction, particularly projects with bold, distinctive voices and narratives that engage meaningfully with social themes. Her interests encompass coming-of-age narratives, historical fiction approached with a contemporary sensibility, and elevated book club fiction, as well as works that challenge or transcend traditional genre boundaries or incorporate surreal and unconventional elements. She is interested to character-driven narratives that examine complex interpersonal relationships—familial, platonic, and romantic—and is often interested in stories defined by emotional intensity or themes of obsession. She also demonstrates a strong affinity for elevated suspense and socially conscious thrillers, as well as work that skillfully integrates humor with psychological depth. depth, and emotional nuance.
On the nonfiction side, Garcia seeks memoir, cultural criticism, popular science, psychology, parenting, and topics centered on women’s experiences. She also works closely with her authors to place shorter pieces—such as essays and excerpts—in leading literary and cultural publications, helping to expand their reach and visibility.
Outside of her professional work, Garcia is a devoted dog lover and shares her home with her seven-year-old Golden Retriever, Brenda, whom she adopted. Over the years, she has also cared for three other rescue dogs, reflecting her ongoing commitment to animal adoption.
She is open to submissions and invites writers to query her via email, including a query letter and the first five pages of their manuscript pasted into the body of the message.
